Leaden Skies looks at some of the human stories lived and retold by prisoners in holocaust concentration camps. The bitter humor, the denials, and the fantasies that kept them alive and moving forward are all part of this full evening dance theatre work.

The Production Team

Artistic Director—Martin A. David is an actor and director, well as a modern dancer, and choreographer, who has performed in major European and American venues. His studies include a degree in Theatre from Brooklyn College. He has also had extensive modern dance training. In addition, he has studied with a variety of well-known dance, mime, clowning, and Commedia Dell’Arte teachers in Europe and America. In early 2008, Martin completed an intensive workshop in Physical Theatre led by renowned Russian director Sergei Ostrenko in Malpils, Latvia, under the auspices of IUGTE (International University Global Theatre Experience.)
The part of Martin A. David’s career dedicated to modern dance and choreography includes the establishment and artistic direction of two touring modern dance companies, Creative Dance Theatre that resided in Copenhagen, Denmark and was supported by the Danish Ministry of Culture . On a recent visit to Copenhagen, Martin was given recognition as “A pioneer of modern dance in Denmark.” Martin also founded and led the Bay Area group …And Still Dancing which is the basis for the physical theatre company, ...And Still….
Martin’s produced plays include The Rehearsal, Golem, Rules, Speak Louder, and Farewell Mumford Flats (radio). Martin is an arts activist who is on the Board of Directors of the exciting arts organization, CounterPULSE, and has served on the Dance and Multimedia Arts panels of California Arts Council, as a panelist and audition judge for Bay Area Dance Alliance and for the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. He has served as a panelist for the CA$H Awards and is a past recipient of that grant. He a past Commissioner on the Santa Clara Cultural Advisory Commission, and served as Chairman of that body.

Composer— A lifelong musician, Jacob Hall has been performing professionally since he was 8 years old and wrote his first full composition while in High School. A former member of the trumpet studio of the University of Arizona, he was a soloist and lead player for the Arizona Jazz Band. Other musical groups have been as varied as the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the LA Klezmer, and the funk-rock laden Papa’s Hat. He has been a guest soloist and clinician at multiple High Schools and his music has taken him on performing tours around the United States, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. He shares his love of music with Elementary School students as a professional educator, working through the Stephen Wise Music Academy’s Beginning Instrumental Program.
